Qatar Fund for Development signs a cooperation agreement with Qatar Red Crescent to meet humanitarian needs in Libya
With a value of $8 million for the benefit of 623 thousand beneficiaries
Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Red Crescent signed a grant agreement worth US$8 million (about 29.2 million Qatari riyals) to support the humanitarian and medical needs of more than 623,000 beneficiaries in Libya over the course of a year. It was signed by Qatar Fund for Development by Mr. Misfer Hamad Al Shahwani, Executive Director. To manage development projects, and on behalf of the Qatar Red Crescent, Mr. Rashid Saad Al-Muhannadi, Director General of the Relief and International Development Sector.
His Excellency the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Libya, Sheikh Mohammed bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, expressed that this humanitarian support comes within the framework of the efforts made by the State of Qatar since 2016 to provide relief to the brotherly Libyan people, and in implementation of the initiative of the State of Qatar, worth 10 million US dollars, to improve humanitarian conditions. In Libya, by adopting many relief projects in various humanitarian sectors and in cooperation and coordination with the Libyan Red Crescent.
On the occasion of signing the agreement, Mr. Misfer Al-Shahwani stressed that this project aims to support the humanitarian needs in southern Libya, especially in the sectors of food security, water, sanitation, and non-food aid, in addition to supporting the health sector, including hospitals, health centers, and mobile medical teams, and launching programs to develop the capabilities of workers in Health field. In addition to supporting the education sector in Libya by supporting the Faculty of Medicine at Zaytouna University.
While Mr. Rashid Al-Muhannadi thanked the Qatar Fund for Development for this generous support for the ongoing relief work carried out by the Qatar Red Crescent through its representative mission in Libya, which will enable it to expand the scope of aid to accommodate more beneficiaries and provide their basic needs as much as possible, which contributes to alleviating the burden of The harsh ordeal they go through, while preserving their human dignity.
Al-Muhannadi praised the existing strategic partnership between the Qatar Red Crescent and the Qatar Fund for Development, which reflects the firm orientation of the State of Qatar and its wise leadership to stand by the weak and extend a helping hand to the afflicted, especially in sisterly Arab countries such as Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya, with the Qatar Red Crescent playing a pivotal role in this. Interventions thanks to his prominent position in the international humanitarian movement and his role in supporting the State of Qatar in its humanitarian policies internally and externally.
With regard to the relief program to be implemented in light of this agreement in the municipalities of southern Libya, a multi-sectoral action plan will be implemented with a budget of 5 million US dollars, at the forefront of which will be the health sector through training and qualifying 180 people including doctors, nurses, midwives and medical supply workers, and supporting 3 hospitals. Main and 3 health centers with medicines, devices and medical supplies, and providing mobile medical teams in 3 areas suffering from weak health services.
In parallel, food parcels containing rice, pasta, tuna, sugar and other basic food commodities will be distributed for the benefit of 4,000 families, and water wells will be dug and rehabilitated and supplied with water pumps and electric power generators to operate them in 3 cities with a population of 100,000 people, and shelter materials will be provided for the benefit of 4,000 families. Includes mattresses, blankets, baby blankets and floor mats.
The remaining part of the budget, amounting to 3 million US dollars, is allocated to support Misurata Central Hospital with medicines, basic medical supplies, operating devices and materials, and to support and rehabilitate the Faculty of Medicine at Al-Zaytouna University in Tarhuna by providing scientific devices and equipment and educational models for laboratories and laboratories in 4 departments of the college, and establishing an electronic library for scientific references. Restoring and furnishing laboratories and laboratories, and providing electrical energy regulation devices to protect devices and equipment from damage.
