On the sidelines of the LDC5 5^th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) hosts an event under the title of Putting Youth at the Forefront: Paving the Way for Youth to Thrive and Prosper, with the participation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Qatar Fund for Development, with the collaboration of the United Nations Programme (UNDP) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), hosted an event under the youth track with the theme of Putting Youth at the Forefront: Paving the Way for Youth to Thrive and Prosper, at the LDC5 5^th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
As the world strives to cope with the challenges and setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the climate emergency, LDCs have been strongly affected by the socio-economic fallout of the pandemic, further exasperating gaping vulnerabilities, and challenges. This impact is deemed alarming when young people are at the forefront of this challenge. The youth face long-term socio-economic effects and are heavily impacted by these complex challenges that impact their education, employment, livelihoods, mental health, and uncertain prospects. Given the continued increase in children and youth in LDCs, access to quality education becomes an additional burden for building sustainable school systems. This limits their ability to provide access to quality education for all without sustainable investments in education and skill building. In addition, the necessity of post-secondary education in LDCs has left most young men and women trapped in precarious and informal employment structures.
By highlighting these persistent issues and problems, this main event brings together young entrepreneurs and vulnerable groups to discuss the goals needed to enable young people to not only prepare and survive in situations of emergencies but to thrive and prosper and realize their full potential. The discussion also addresses the opportunities and challenges faced by youth relating to the Sustainable Development Goals, how to overcome these challenges, strengthen resilience, and take action to contribute to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda by replacing fear with hope, and division into togetherness.
H.E. Mr. Khalifa Al Kuwari, Director General at QFFD stated: “We must continue to provide opportunities for the young people to ensure they become the leaders we aspire to have in the future. We must also allow them to tap into their full potential by equipping them with the needed skills in civil society, business and beyond. Above all, we must encourage them to be change agents and advocates for societies to advance and prosper.”
Through hosting such event, QFFD hopes to allow young people recognized as agents and partners of change, and when provided with the necessary skills and opportunities, young people have endless potential to drive innovative solutions and social progress to start giving back to their communities and lead them to sustainable development and change.

The State of Qatar and the United States Join Forces in Support of Humanitarian Assistance Worldwide
Qatar Fund for Development, the United States Department of State, and the United States Agency for International Development held a joint session on Humanitarian Assistance as part of the Fifth U.S.-Qatar Strategic Dialogue, held by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the session, both parties discussed joint priorities and avenues for cooperation to strengthen humanitarian assistance worldwide. The discussion highlighted the need for greater support for women and children in vulnerable contexts, rising food insecurity levels worldwide, and the importance of rapid responses to emerging humanitarian crises.

Qatar Fund for Development hosts the eighty-seventh meeting of the Arab Coordination Group

Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) through hosted the 87th meeting of the Arab Coordination Group, at the level of managers. To discuss subjects of common interest in the development and humanitarian sector. QFFD is hosting this meeting for the first time since joining in 2014.

This meeting aims to enhance coordination and increase the effectiveness of development interventions. During the meeting, views were exchanged on a number of axes related to policies and operations, information on the funds provided to each of the group members, a review of the status of some countries and projects of a special nature, and the relationship of the group with regional financial institutions and international.

“Qatar Fund for Development is pleased to host the 87th meeting of the Arab Coordination Group for the first time in Doha virtually, to discuss issues of common interest in the development and humanitarian sector.” Said Mr. Misfer Al-Shahwani, Deputy Director General of Projects at QFFD,

“It has become increasingly urgent to address international development challenges that threaten not only disastrous consequences for societies around the world, but also undermine the development achievements made so far,” Added Mr. Al-Shahwani

“The Coordination Group institutions strive to continue their joint efforts to support economic and social development in partner countries, especially during the current global crisis brought on by the COVID 19 pandemic. Despite the pandemic, the Coordination Group have continued their meetings, which resulted in the release of a joint statement in which the Coordination Group pledged to allocate ten billion US dollars to assist developing countries in their immediate response and efforts aimed at achieving economic recover.” Said Mr. Azzeddine Bouchelaghem, Secretariat of the Arab Coordination Group

The meeting will be attended by Qatar Fund for Development, the Islamic Development Bank, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, the OPEC Fund for International Development, Saudi Fund for Development, Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, and the Arab Gulf Program for Development the Arab Monetary Fund and the Iraqi Fund for External Development.

Qatar Development Fund signs an MoU with Nadia Initiative in Iraq

The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Nadia Initiative in Iraq to promote the Sinjar region. On the sidelines of the 18th Doha Forum. The agreement was signed by HE Khalifa Bin Jassim Al-Kuwari , Director General of Qatar Fund for Development , and Ms. Nadia Murad the president of Nadia Initiative.

Founded in September of 2016, Nadia’s Initiative is dedicated to advocating for victims of sexual violence and rebuilding communities in crisis.

Where the initiative will work on finding solutions that allow returning citizens to Senjar after the recent crisis to be self-sufficient rather than relying on the aid network. As well as the resettlement of families living in IDP camps in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

“The Qatar Development Fund is concerned with initiatives that have a role in development and are of paramount importance because of their long-term impact, as resettlement in Sinjar needs resources to start a new era of reconstruction, after the recent Crisis. The MoU in line with the direction of the State of Qatar under the wise government to help its brothers in Iraq, empowering the people is one of the matters of interest to the State of Qatar in particular ” said HE Khalifa Bin Jassim Al-Kuwari , Director General of Qatar Fund for Development.

“I am grateful to the Qatar Fund for Development for their support of Nadia’s Initiative and the Sinjar Action Fund (SAF). Nadia’s Initiative established the SAF to advance redevelopment efforts in the region. We are a global community and we must unite to rebuild what ISIS destroyed. SAF brings a comprehensive peace building approach to reconstruction efforts, recognizing that solutions must be developed locally and returnees must be an integral part of the process. The Qatar Fund for Development contribution to this effort is much appreciated and signals the importance of international commitments.“ said Ms. Nadia Murad the president of Nadia Initiative.
