As part of Qatar’s ongoing efforts to support the brotherly Syrian people, a humanitarian aid convoy was dispatched to the Syrian Arab Republic on Thursday, 11 September, in cooperation with the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), Qatar Charity (QC), and the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO).

The convoy comprised 24 trucks carrying food, medicine, and medical supplies to address urgent humanitarian and health needs in Syria and alleviate the suffering of displaced persons and the affected groups.

This initiative demonstrates QFFD’s commitment, alongside regional and international partners, to strengthening cooperation and ensuring an effective and sustainable humanitarian response for those most in need.

As part of the ongoing Qatari air bridge to support the Syrian Arab Republic, Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has dispatched the fifth plane via the Qatar Emiri Air Force to Lebanon, carrying 33.85 tonnes of urgent humanitarian aid, including food baskets and shelter materials.

These humanitarian efforts reflect the State of Qatar’s commitment to standing in solidarity with the brotherly Syrian people, addressing their urgent needs, and supporting their resilience to ensure a prosperous future.

The vessel departed from the port of Mersin in the Republic of Turkey a month ago, initially expected to arrive within 5 to 6 weeks, however, it successfully completed its journey in just 4 weeks. 

The food baskets will be sent to areas most impacted by desertification in Namibia to meet urgent food needs. The baskets include bags of rice, cooking oil, minced soybeans, fish, chicken, and canned meat. 

With the arrival of this vessel, the total number of food baskets sent to the Republic of Namibia to combat desertification, via both air and sea has now reached 63,500, weighing approximately 1,925 tons. This shipment complements Qatar’s prior airlift efforts over the past months, totals to 180 tons, equivalent to 5,500 food baskets.

Qatar Fund for Development supported Qatar Red Crescent in implementing the “Emergency Food Support for Flood Victims in the Republic of Niger” project. This initiative involved the distribution of food assistance, including 3,600 food baskets and 750 tons of livestock feed, to support animal husbandry in six affected regions. The aid aimed to improve food security for over 6,600 families impacted by the floods.

Each family received a comprehensive food basket containing 120 kg of essential items such as millet, rice, sugar, and cooking oil, while families that suffered livestock losses due to the floods were provided with 250 kg of feed.

This assistance was part of a wider response to the disaster, as recent floods claimed the lives of 373 individuals, resulted in the loss of 24,955 livestock, destroyed 136,273 homes and 710 water sources, and affected 174,438 families comprising 1,296,618 people.

This collaboration reflects Qatar’s commitment to acting swiftly and effectively to support communities impacted by natural disasters. It also highlights the importance of partnerships in delivering urgent humanitarian aid, thereby enhancing efforts to meet the needs of those affected. Through this partnership, the Fund aims to provide essential support to improve the living conditions of beneficiaries, demonstrating the values of humanity and solidarity.

In continued support of the Lebanese people, Qatar Fund for Development has dispatched 21.6 tonnes of urgent humanitarian aid via an aircraft from the Emiri Air Force, which included food supplies, hygiene kits, shelter materials, first aid kits, and solar kits. So far, the fund has managed to send five planes loaded with various humanitarian supplies.

This aid effort aims to enhance the resilience of the Lebanese people and address their urgent needs considering the current challenges. This initiative reaffirms the solidarity of the State of Qatar with the Lebanese people as they face these difficult circumstances resulting from the ongoing Israeli aggression.

A delegation from Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) made a field visit to Port Sudan with the aim of holding meetings with the Federal Ministry of Health, checking the logistical work, and following up on the projects progress with Qatar Charity (QC) and the Qatar Red Crescent (QRCs).

During the visit, the delegation met with HE Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, Minister of Health of the Republic of Sudan, and visited the Ministry’s logistical supply warehouses.

The delegation also checked the humanitarian aid sent by the Fund to support the Sudanese people through an air bridge that was activated during the month of Ramadan, which included various aid such as medical, food, and shelter aid.

This visit comes as a continuation of the State of Qatar’s ongoing efforts to help the Sudanese people and support their steadfastness in light of the current difficult events.
