Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) signed an agreement with the Turquoise Moun-tain Trust (TMT) to provide financial support for the Response, Resilience, and Global Engagement: Alleviation of poverty in a humanitarian crisis through direct support for livelihoods for female weavers programme.
This contribution to TMT aims to propose a one-year pilot programme to alleviate pov-erty in a humanitarian crisis by directly supporting the livelihoods of 3,261 female weavers and a further 9,783 indirect beneficiaries through their households.
Under the umbrella of our initiative, Women in Conflict Zones (WiCZ), this is a signifi-cant livelihood-generating opportunity that will improve Afghan women’s lives by build-ing resilience in the Afghan carpet sector through the enhancement of international market linkages.
The programme also aims to transform the lives of thousands of Afghan families. This unique program in Afghanistan is uniquely positioned to support the growth and de-velopment of the Afghan carpet economy.
Mr. Sultan Al-Aseeri, Deputy Director General for Projects at the Qatar Fund for Devel-opment, stated “It is with QFFD’s enormous pleasure to join efforts with Turquoise Mountain to address Afghani women’s essential needs by building resilience in the Afghani carpet sector by enhancing international market linkages. Therefore, we trust that this joint partnership will transform the lives of thousands of Afghan families, par-ticularly women, and showcase the potential development of what can be done in Af-ghanistan.” He ended his remarks by saying: “We look forward to the successful im-plementation of the program and how best we can utilize this newly established part-nership between QFFD and Turquoise Mountain to accelerate efforts in creating better lives for women in Afghanistan.”
Ms. Shoshana Stewart, President of TMT said “This partnership with the Qatar Fund for Development will support thousands of female Afghan weavers and their families and showcase – at a moment of intense need – the potential of what can be done in Af-ghanistan”
Supporting such a programme highlights the Fund’s efforts in providing a sustainable income to the livelihoods of artisans in Afghanistan and contributes to the future of this craft. This agreement also aligns with QFFD’s vision of giving hope and promoting peace and justice through sustainable and inclusive development.
