H.E. Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al Thani Concludes Second Day of Engagements, Driving Humanitarian Impact and Global Partnerships in Geneva

As part of the high-level visit to Geneva, H.E. Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al-Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), concluded the second day of engagements in reaffirmation of the Fund’s steadfast commitment to strengthening international cooperation and supporting shared development and humanitarian priorities, contributing to a positive impact at both the regional and global levels.
H.E. Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al-Thani met with Ms. Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), where discussions addressed the
complex humanitarian challenges in conflict settings and the need for sustained and principled support. Following the meeting, QFFD signed a core contribution agreement to support the ICRC’s global efforts in assisting individuals and communities impacted by armed conflict and violence.
A meeting was also held with Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, Director-General of the International
Labour Organization (ILO), focusing on the promotion of decent work, labor rights, and social protection systems. In a clear demonstration of this commitment, QFFD signed a core contribution agreement to support ILO’s programming for the 2024–2025 period, reflecting Qatar’s commitment to social justice and fair employment worldwide.
In parallel, and in observance of the International Day of Living Together in Peace, commemorated annually on 16 May, QFFD hosted the exhibition “Resilience Through Their Eyes” across Geneva. The exhibition offered a compelling visual narrative portraying the strength, dignity, and resilience of individuals affected by conflict and crises. It served as a reminder of our shared humanity and the transformative impact of development and peacebuilding.
The exhibition was attended by of H.E. Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al Thani, H.E. Dr. Hend AlMuftah, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in Geneva, alongside high-level representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, United Nations agencies, international organizations, diplomatic missions and academics.
This visit highlighted QFFD’s comprehensive approach to international cooperation, leveraging innovative financing, fostering multilateral dialogue, and advancing advocacy efforts, to promote a more just, inclusive, and resilient world.
