On the occasion of the United Nations high-level political forum A symposium organized by Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar charity about building resilience in fragile countries to COVID-19

Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity will hold tomorrow a virtual side event panel discussion entitled “building resilience in fragile countries to covid-19 and beyond: A Qatari perspective”.

The organization of the symposium comes on the sidelines of the United Nations high-level political forum from 8-16 July 2020 in New York.

The high-level political forum is held annually under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. It is the primary platform for the United Nations to review global progress concerning the implementation of development goals.

The event of this year is linked to unprecedented conditions due to the Coronavirus pandemic and has ultimately impacted the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

In addition to Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity, Qatar Red Crescent, Start Network, OCHA, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will participate in this symposium.

It will include presenting paperwork and interventions from the participants.

In this context, Qatar Development Fund and Qatar Charity have swiftly mobilized resources to contribute to international efforts to confront coronavirus, worth of Aid delivered to more than 25 Countries since the start of the outbreak.

Mr. Yousuf AlKuwari, Chief Executive Officer at Qatar Charity, says: “Progress towards the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals has experienced a setback like no other this year. Qatar Charity allocated more than $20 million to contribute to the global fight against the coronavirus but the needs exceed by far the resources available for aid. We need to reflect on this unprecedented crisis and build on the momentum to help fragile communities withstand future shocks. This crisis is a true test for the international community to act in the interest of global solidarity and ensure that fragile communities have access to the knowledge, tools and expertize to protect themselves from future shocks.”

Today our world is confronted with multidimensional challenges across all sectors caused by COVID-19, and with 10 years only left ahead to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the pandemic may put us off track in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the commitment to leave no one behind. And while the pandemic has set back some of the progress of the SDGs, this should not impede our efforts, on the contrary, we must turn this challenge into an opportunity for boosting actions needed to rebuild from crisis in a way that not only makes us more resilient to future shocks, but also helps the global community reset toward a more robust foundation for successful implementation of SDG.” Stated Mr. Khalifa Al-Kuwari, Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development
