In collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), the Qatar Fund for Development hosted an event titled Battling Hunger in a Land of Conflict and Climate Change: Yemen’s Struggle For Food Security, at the LDC5 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
As the world is experiencing extreme weather conditions in which survival has become increasingly complex and conflicts are only increasing, this exhibition aims to incite conversation about the food insecurity situation in Yemen. Shedding light on the struggles and suffering of the Yemeni people, who have been forgotten in a world ridden with a magnitude of humanitarian crises compounded by climate change, is a critical goal that comes along with the joint effort of QFFD and WFP. By highlighting these persistent issues and problems, this side event brings together young entrepreneurs and vulnerable groups to discuss the goals needed to enable young people not only to prepare and survive in situations of emergencies but to thrive and prosper and realize their full potential.
In partnership with WFP, this exhibition will focus on the growing food insecurity issues and its underlying drivers in Yemen, weaving in human and success stories from the ground while highlighting the importance of collaboration between donors and UN agencies (QFFD and WFP) to accelerate LDCs such as Yemen’s progress towards achieving sustainable development, and in this case, SDG 2: Zero Hunger.
Through hosting such an event, QFFD hopes to have inspired the audience, from high-level decision makers to LDC5 visitors, to act for populations experiencing a high level of food insecurity in Yemen and continue to provide humanitarian food assistance to underprivileged communities in Yemen.
