Qatar donates to build a Hospital in Morocco

The cooperation between Morocco and Qatar has witnessed a remarkable development in recent years. The distinct relations between the two countries have been enhanced by mutual visits, the signing of agreements and protocols of cooperation and the implementation of development projects, especially in 2015. The State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Morocco have supported the social dimension of the Qatari-Moroccan relations.

The initiatives, carried out between the two countries, have strengthened the relations, based on the vision of the leaders of the two countries, HH Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and HM King Mohammed VI, in particular the contribution of the Qatar Fund for Development to financing the construction of a university hospital in the north of the Kingdom worth $300 million.

On the 7th of October, in implementation of the directives of the Emir and with special funding from His Highness, two projects out of 5 projects were completed in the city of Rachidia in southern Morocco, to support the education and health sectors, including a blood and dialysis center in Goulmima and a school complex for elementary and preparatory schools in Malaeb.

A number of Moroccan officials visited Qatar in 2017 including the Minister of Employment and Social Affairs Abdul Salam al-Siddiqi, who inaugurated the Moroccan Labor office at the headquarters of the Ministry of Labor in Doha with his Qatari counterpart Abdullah bin Saleh Al Khulaifi.

The office aims at bringing the Moroccan Workers’ Recruitment Agreement signed between the two countries on May 17, 1981 and the Additional Protocol signed in Rabat on November 24, 2011 into operation and regulating the recruitment and deployment of Moroccan workers and competencies.

The Office also assumes the responsibility of briefing the services of the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Competencies, building partnerships with employers in the State of Qatar, formulating and implementing programs to explore job opportunities for Moroccans, monitoring the development of labor market and the productive sectors’ needs related to labor force real, and coordinating and following up the job opportunities provided by the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Competencies, as well as with the institutions operating in the field of international employment in Qatar and following up the legislations related to the employment of foreign labor in Qatar.

The Moroccan-Qatari Joint Committee for Consular and Social Affairs was held in Doha last October, to develop the social dimension of the Moroccan-Qatari relations. The Committee stressed the importance of strengthening the relations between the pension funds in Morocco and Qatar promoting visits between the General Authority for Retirement and Social Security in Qatar and the CDG and the social reserve institutions in Morocco to discuss ways to exchange expertise in the field of retirement and insurance.

The Moroccan Minister in charge of Moroccans living abroad and migration affairs, Anis Birou visited Doha earlier this month and held a meeting with members of the Moroccan community living in Qatar to discuss issues of interest and ways to improve the conditions of Moroccans in Qatar and enhancing their contribution to the development in Morocco.

The two countries signed by a protocol of cooperation to recruit Moroccan teachers in Qatar, where the Moroccan teachers will be employed in the school year 2015-2016 according to the specialties, conditions and specifications determined by the Qatari officials. The Moroccan officials will consider the needs and will issue an internal memorandum for selecting teachers.
