Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity sign an agreement with the World Food Programme (WFP)

Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity signed an agreement with the World Food Programme to support WFP’s humanitarian activities in Yemen, in line with their strategic plan, through supporting populations suffering from food insecurity and ensuring their minimum nutritional requirements in Yemen’s urban and semi-urban areas, at an estimated total cost of US$ 2.945 million. The projects are estimated to benefit more than 256 000 people in various governorates in Yemen

The agreement was signed by H.E. Mr. Abdulaziz bin Ahmed al-Maliki, Ambassador of the State of Qatar in Rome and Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations agencies in Rome, on behalf of Qatar Fund for Development and Mr. Faisal bin Rashid al-Alfhidh, Assistant Chief Executive Officer for International Operations and Partnerships at Qatar Charity, and Mr. David Beasley, Executive Director of the World Food Programme.

The agreement is part of the efforts of the State of Qatar, through Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity to respond to the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the ongoing conflict in Yemen, by supporting the World Food Programme in delivering essential humanitarian and basic needs in line with the assessment of Yemen humanitarian response plan for 2019.

” Today, we are proud of the strong and strategic partnerships of Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity with World Food Programme Qatar’s continuous efforts, which consistently advocates for addressing humanitarian needs and answering to the needs of people around the world, including refugees.” said H.E. Mr. Abdulaziz bin Ahmed al-Maliki, Ambassador of the State of Qatar in Italy, on the occasion of the signing. ” I also commend the active role of the World Food Programme in delivering food assistance, which is particularly necessary in crises countries such as Yemen, where more than 20 million are suffering from food insecurity and half of the population is prone to famine” he added.

Mr. Faisal bin Rashid al-Alfhidh, Assistant Chief Executive Officer for International Operations and Partnerships at Qatar Charity, expressed his contentment with the ongoing coordination with Qatar Fund for Development and their engagement in supporting the State of Qatar’s efforts in the field of humanitarian aid across the world and highlighting its leading role in the field of international development at regional and global levels.

“This agreement demonstrates the strength of this strategic partnership and high coordination between Qatar Charity and the Qatar Fund for Development and also reflects the scope of the growing partnership with the World Food Programme,” said Mr. Faisal bin Rashid al-Alfhidh. “This agreement reflects the magnitude of the cooperation between Qatar Charity, Qatar Fund for Development and other international humanitarian actors, which has grown substantially in the past few years. It also reinforces the three-party joint cooperation initiative to achieve common humanitarian goals that help and protect people affected by crises around the world” he added.

Mr. Faisal bin Rashid al-Alfhidh also expressed his pride that Qatar Charity is a funding partner for the World Food Programme at the level of non-governmental organizations in the region, and stressed the desire of Qatar Charity to maintain and develop this partnership to further enhance its presence at the level of co-operation to serve humanitarian issues, particularly as the number of populations affected by food insecurity across the world is growing in recent years due to the high occurrence of conflicts in many regions, including Yemen.

From his part, Mr. David Beasley, Executive Director of the World Food Programme, praised the great efforts of the State of Qatar in the field of humanitarian work across the world, especially in crisis areas, noting the distinctive role played by Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity in this field. “We are proud of our cooperation and partnership with the humanitarian actors in Qatar which has significantly grown in recent years. The support we get from our partners plays a very important role in our ability to respond to different humanitarian needs.’’ he said.
