Qatar Fund for Development is participating in the ECOSOC Humanitarian Affairs segment side event.
According to OCHA, nearly 131 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance and the number of forcibly displaced people, including refugees and IDPs rose to 68.5 million in 2017. Against this backdrop, Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), will participate in the high level panel discussion under the theme: Addressing Unmet Needs: Humanitarian Funding Trends and Gaps’ organized by OCHA on the sidelines of the ECOSOC – Humanitarian Affairs Segment, to be held from 24 to 26 of June at Palais des Nations in Geneva.
The event will discuss unmet needs in Humanitarian funding and will explore how to better respond to situations where affected populations receive insufficient international aid and attention in spite of growing needs.
Since 1998 the Humanitarian Affairs Segment has been an essential platform for discussing issues related to strengthening the coordination and effectiveness of the humanitarian assistance of the United Nations, including assessing progress and identifying emerging issues, obstacles and challenges. It also promotes the sharing of experiences and lessons learned at the national and regional level. This year’s theme will be “Promoting action to save lives, reach those in need and reduce humanitarian risk, vulnerability and need: looking towards the seventieth anniversary of the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949 and the climate summit called for by the Secretary-General”.
