Qatar Fund for Development Launches Emergency Humanitarian Interventions in Vietnam and Sri Lanka to Support Flood-Affected Families In Partnership with Qatar Charity and Qatar Red Crescent Society
Doha, 4 December -The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has announced the launch of two emergency humanitarian interventions to support communities severely affected by the recent floods and landslides in both the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. Implemented in partnership with Qatar Charity (QC) and Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), these efforts reaffirm the State of Qatar’s unwavering commitment to standing with disaster-affected populations and strengthening community resilience amid intensifying humanitarian and climate-related challenges. The interventions are expected to reach approximately 28,500 people across both countries.
In Vietnam, the intervention implemented with QRCS aims to bolster early recovery efforts for families residing in the hardest-hit areas. The project will provide multi-purpose cash assistance to help affected households meet their urgent needs, along with flood-resistant vegetable seeds, agricultural tools, and essential farming supplies to rehabilitate damaged farmlands. Additional support will be directed toward farmers and fishers to help them restore their primary sources of income. The initiative also explores the implementation of “cash-for-work” activities to repair and rehabilitate damaged agricultural and community infrastructure. Overall, the project is set to benefit 4,000 families—equivalent to 16,000 individuals.
In Sri Lanka, the relief intervention, carried out in partnership with Qatar Charity, will provide urgent humanitarian assistance to communities whose homes and properties were destroyed by the floods and landslides. The project includes distributing 2,500 comprehensive relief kits, containing food supplies, clothing, hygiene materials, and cooking utensils. Additionally, search and rescue equipment will be provided to strengthen the capacity of local authorities and responders. The initiative aims to reach 12,500 individuals over a three-month implementation period.
On this occasion, H.E. Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad, Minister of State for International Cooperation, stated:
“These humanitarian interventions reflect the State of Qatar’s unwavering commitment to standing with communities facing escalating crises, particularly those resulting from climate-induced disasters. Our support to Vietnam and Sri Lanka is part of Qatar’s long-standing approach to strengthening international solidarity, alleviating human suffering, and empowering affected communities to regain stability and rebuild their resilience. We remain committed to working closely with our partners to ensure an effective response that addresses immediate needs while laying the foundations for sustainable recovery.”
QFFD continues to work with regional and international partners to deliver timely, impactful humanitarian assistance and contribute to building a more stable, just, and sustainable future for the most vulnerable communities around the world.
