Qatar Fund for Development lays the foundation stone for a Cancer Treatment Center in the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou city.

Qatar Fund for Development lays the foundation stone during an official ceremony for a cancer treatment center project under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, President of the Republic of Burkina Faso, in the presence of the first lady and the Prime Minister.

The ceremony was also attended by a High delegation from Qatar Fund for Development, headed by Mr. Mansour Abdullah Al Dhaimi, Deputy Director General of the Department of Shared Services, and a number of ministers and officials from the Burkinabe side.

HE Mrs. Leonie Claudine, Minister of Health of Burkina Faso, gave a speech at the ceremony whereby she expressed her thanks and gratitude to the Government and people of the State of Qatar under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani Amir of the State of Qatar, for the humanitarian and development assistance provided to the people and Government of the Republic of Burkina Faso in the health care sector commending the positive impact that will be yield from this project on the health sector as a whole.

From his side Mr. Al-Dhaimi said:” We at the Qatar Development Fund are proud to build this new of a kind medical center in West Africa that will strengthen the health sector in Burkina Faso and be a major cause of life for many cancer patients. This project is of great importance to us and local officials and will be active in providing treatment, and mproving the level of health services in general and cancer patients in particular”

The project aims to increase the ability to secure access to treatment, and improve the quality of services and reduce the number of treatments abroad, which will in turn help reduce the financial burden on the Government’s health sector budget. This project is estimated to benefit 1,700 beneficiaries annually.

In addition to training of medical and technical staff, the cancer centre also includes a radiotherapy section, chemical treatment rooms, laboratories and administrative offices, covering a total area of 1681 square meters.
