New York, January 31, 2024 –
Qatar Fund for Development participated in the 2024 Partnership Forum under The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on January 30, 2024.
The event, held under the theme “Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient, and innovative solutions,” placed special emphasis on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be reviewed at the 2024 High-level Political Forum (HLPF).
The Forum specifically addresses Goal 1 (No Poverty), Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 13 (Climate Action), Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), aligning with UNGA resolution 75/290A. These goals will be slated for review at the upcoming High-Level Political Forum in July.
The one-day Forum was chaired by the President of ECOSOC, featuring formal plenary sessions where Member States and stakeholders outlined their priorities and recommendations for advancing the 2030 Agenda. Additionally, technical QFFD delegates participated in the four SDG action segments that highlighted the criticality of forming and developing concrete and innovative partnerships to enhance the process of implementation and success.
During the Forum’s plenary session, H.E Mr. Khalifa Al-Kuwari, Director General of QFFD expressed that the “exceptional circumstances of today’s world and their consequences on the path to sustainable development at the global level remind us of the more urgent than ever need to intensify their efforts, promote innovative partnerships and multilateral cooperation, especially as we reach the midterm stage before fulfilling our commitment to the 2030 Agenda”.
Over 30 side events organized by various entities, both in-person and virtually, complemented the Forum’s main sessions. The plenary and SDG action segments have been broadcasted via UN web TV for global accessibility.
