Qatar Fund for Development signs A Grant Agreement to support UNESCO Doha Office
Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) signed a grant agreement to support UNESCO Regional Office in Doha.
The agreement was signed by QFFD Director General, H.E. Mr. Khalifa Jassim Al-Kuwari and Director of UNESCO Doha Office Dr. Anna Paolini.
The agreement increases Qatar’s contribution to support the budget of UNESCO Office in Doha to $500,000 to cover operating costs, meet logistics needs, and support the annual office budget for 2016.
In a press statement, Al-Kuwari said QFFD attaches great importance to UNESCO’s programmes and activities aimed at supporting education, culture and science sectors, which stems from its vision to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development in developing countries.
Al-Kuwari stated that Qatar appreciates UNESCO’s efforts in the region, stressing QFFD’s keenness to participate along with UNESCO in promoting the right of people in developing countries to preserve their heritage, culture and rights to knowledge and education.
For her part, Dr. Anna Paolini, Director of UNESCO Doha Office, expressed appreciation to the State of Qatar for its continuous support UNESCO, stressing the importance of joint cooperation with the Qatar Fund for Development to support the Government’s vision to provide quality education to all, pursue scientific cooperation and protect cultural heritage worldwide.
Dr. Anna Paolini said that this long-term cooperation between the State of Qatar and UNESCO has made significant achievements in promoting sustainable development and addressing social, environmental and economic challenges at the regional and international levels. She added that QFFD’s contribution reflects the State of Qatar’s commitment to supporting further efforts to build peace and reinforcing solidarity among nations.
