Qatar Fund for Development signs an MoU with the Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum to purchase a collection of books to support the cultural activities of refugee children

 

Qatar Fund for Development signed an agreement with the Forum of Qatari Publishers and Distributors of the Ministry of Culture and Sports to purchase a collection of books and stories to support the cultural activities of children for Syrian refugees and displaced people in Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon. Where the agreement was signed by Mr. Misfer Al-Shahwani, the Deputy General Director for Development Projects, and Mr. Ibrahim Al-Sayed, Director of the Qatar Publishers and Distributors Forum.

This cooperation between the Fund and the Ministry comes during the Doha International Book Fair, as part of the Quest initiative, an initiative that seeks to ensure that children and youth affected by the Syrian crisis have access to quality education and skills that will guarantee a bright future for them and will improve their communities through the transition to official education.

The fund also participated as a diamond sponsor this year through its pavilion, which reflects the message “Reading is a right for every child”, as this booth is there to raise the children awareness of the cause of the right to education for refugees. The booth also include several activities, one of which is an interactive painting, where the audience participated in, painted by the Qatari artist, Ahoud Al-Defe. In addition to a space for children to color drawings that simulate the same cause.

This cooperation is the third successive cooperation between the Fund and the Ministry. In 2017/2018, more than 150,000 Syrians benefited from the program, and the number of schools where books were distributed reached 133. About 300 boxes containing 351,111 pieces of educational aids, children’s story books, educational books, novels and cultural books were distributed.
