October 4th, 2022
Doha, Qatar

Following the State of Qatar’s long-waited preparation for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World cup, Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) launched a dedicated grant program to support young leaders from Street Children United (SCU). With the strategic partnership of Qatar Charity (QC) the program will fund and support the Sport for Development and Peace program (SDP), within various local communities.

Hosted at the Diplomatic Club, Qatar, ten young leaders, representing seven countries (Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Egypt, India, Pakistan, and Tanzania), presented their business plans to a dedicated panel of judges. The panel included, the following 5 judges: Noura Al-kaabi, Strategic Partnership Officer at QFFD; Lulwa Al-Marri, Qatari Triathlete and Clinical Research Biologist; Hajar Al-Hajri Senior Specialist of External Affairs at Qatar Charity (QC), Mohammed Al-Qassabi Youth Advocate at Generation Amazing and Alex White, Chair of the Board at Street Child United. The Judges assessed each project which explored the uses of sports to tackle key social issues and the potential positive impact the program would have within each community.

Each young leader was granted a fund of £2500, whilst two winners (both male and female) received a fund worth £10,000. Sadok John was the first recipient of £10,000 for his project “Street Stars Foundation” and Drika Santos and Jessica Do Vale were the second recipients of £10’000 for their project “Play Like a Girl”.

Street Child United (SCU) will support all Young Leaders to implement their proposed projects upon their return. SCU will monitor and evaluate all projects, to ensure efficient and impactful execution of the grant by QFFD. While at the same time, QC, QFFD’s strategic partner, will be assisting the winner in implementing their project in their respective communities
