QFFD completes its journey of sending 58,000 food baskets via a naval vessel to the Republic of Namibia
In line with the State of Qatar’s ongoing efforts to support the Republic of Namibia, a shipment from the Qatar Development Fund containing 58,000 food baskets has arrived via a naval vessel, weighing 1,745 tons.The shipment was received by H.E. Hon. Neville Andre Itope, the Honorable Governer of Erongo Region.
The vessel departed from the port of Mersin in the Republic of Turkey a month ago, initially expected to arrive within 5 to 6 weeks, however, it successfully completed its journey in just 4 weeks.
The food baskets will be sent to areas most impacted by desertification in Namibia to meet urgent food needs. The baskets include bags of rice, cooking oil, minced soybeans, fish, chicken, and canned meat.
With the arrival of this vessel, the total number of food baskets sent to the Republic of Namibia to combat desertification, via both air and sea has now reached 63,500, weighing approximately 1,925 tons. This shipment complements Qatar’s prior airlift efforts over the past months, totals to 180 tons, equivalent to 5,500 food baskets.
