Signing of an MoU between the Qatar Fund for Development and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs to support Country-Based Pooled Funds During the Doha Forum
According to this agreement, the State of Qatar confirms the visible role of Qatar Fund as a donor and supporter to the mechanism of the Country-Based Pooled Funds
The State of Qatar today announced, through the Qatar Fund for Development, to support the Country Based Pooled Funds in Nigeria, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon for OCHA
This was through a signing ceremony on the margins of the Doha Forum in the presence of His Excellency Mr.Khalifa Al Kuwari, the Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development, and His Excellency Mark Lowcock, the Under-Secretary-General and Humanitarian Relief Coordinator (OCHA).
According to this agreement, the State of Qatar confirms the distinguished role that QFFD plays as a donor and supporter to the mechanism of the pooled funds over the years and through which support is provided to humanitarian aid agencies that benefit from the pooled funds in Nigeria, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon for humanitarian response. This is through the provision of quick unearmarked funding that is in line with humanitarian response plans. QFFD also reiterates the importance of this funding to cover funding gaps within response plans, especially in the countries that host Syrian refugees, such as Jordan and Lebanon, particularly with the approach of the winter season.
His Excellency, Mr. Mark Lowcock, the Under-Secretary-General and the Humanitarian Relief Coordinator (OCHA) mentioned that pooled funds constitute an effective tool to support urgent response that witnessed growth over the past years. He expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Qatar Fund for Development for its generous support to the pooled funds.
