The State of Qatar announces its solidarity with the friendly Republic of Mozambique in its humanitarian crisis:
The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) provides assistance to more than 100.000 people
The State of Qatar expressed its solidarity with the friendly Republic of Mozambique in the humanitarian crisis by providing an urgent humanitarian assistance to 100.000 victims, and by providing direct food assistance to 12,076 residents of the affected area.
The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), in coordination with the Standing Committee for Rescue, Relief and Humanitarian Assistance, have sent a relief aircraft to the affected areas, to deliver 32 tons of relief supplies including medicine, food, baby milk, tents, and other relief materials.
The Fund works also in coordination with the World Food Program (WFP) to deliver food baskets to persons in desperate need in submerged and severely damaged areas, including cereals, pulse food, vegetable oil, soybean meal, ready-to-eat food and high-energy biscuits.
The State of Qatar expresses its deepest condolences over the loss of lives, and express its commitment to stand in solidarity with the Republic of Mozambique to overcome this humanitarian crisis, wishing the People of Mozambique further progress and prosperity.
It is worth mentioning that the tropical cyclone, Idai, hit several provinces and districts in Mozambique, including Sofala, Zambezia, Tete, Nyasa, Manica and Inhambane, causing widespread devastation, killing at least 600 people, and leaving several injured, including people trapped by the cyclone. The population is suffering also from widespread food shortage and lack of medicines caused by this humanitarian disaster.
