The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Qatar Fund For Development Fund (QFFD) Sign a strategic partnership development Agreement

January 14, 2018

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Qatar Fund For Development Fund (QFFD) signed on 24 May 2016 in Istanbul, on the sidelines of the World Humanitarian Summit, a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen their cooperation and strategic partnership in support of the achievement of internationally agreed development goals including the Sustainable Development Goals. UNDP Administrator, Helen Clark and Director General of the QFFD, H.E. Khalifa Al Kuwari signed the Memorandum of Understanding, in the presence of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Chairman of the Qatar Fund For Development.

“Strong partnerships between all global development actors is key to achieving inclusive and sustainable development results over the fifteen year period of the SDGs”, UNDP Administrator Helen Clark said. “Qatar has established itself as a key player in international development co-operation. UNDP is pleased to work alongside the Qatar Fund For Development to help maximize its potential and effectiveness as a global development partner.”

The joint collaboration between UNDP and QFFD will focus on funding development projects within specific countries of mutual priority, addressing priority issues of education, health, climate change and food security; promoting resilience-based development in crisis situations to bridge the gap between humanitarian and development action; and piloting innovative tools and mechanisms for development programming, monitoring and evaluation.

“The Qatar Fund For Development’s main goal is inclusive and sustainable development, this partnership with UNDP is a great step towards achieving this goal and we are proud to collaborate with such an important partner on bridging the humanitarian-development gap,” said QFFD Director General, Khalifa Al Kuwari. “QFFD and the UN already have a track record of delivering sustainable development and peace-building projects such as the United Nations Fund for Recovery, Reconstruction and Development in Darfur. We look forward to continuing this collaboration with UNDP to address underlying risks and to promote resilience wherever this support is most needed.”

As part of the agreement, QFFD and UNDP will cooperate on sharing development knowledge and experience on issues of mutual interest through the organization of joint conferences, seminars, workshops and training programmes. This partnership will also explore the potential of building specialized capacities through collaboration with other UN agencies.
