HH The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza, resumes operations at its main facility in northern Gaza and inaugurates a new branch in the southern Gaza Strip.

HH The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza, funded by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), has resumed providing services to persons with disabilities and war-injured patients at its main headquarters in northern Gaza, following a forced suspension amid Israeli military operations in September 2025.

Mr. Fahad Hamad Al-Sulaiti, Chairman of the Hospital’s Board of Directors and Director General of Qatar Fund for Development, stated: “The resumption of the hospital’s operations comes despite the severe challenges faced by the sector as a result of the war. However, the hospital’s humanitarian mission and ethical responsibility proved stronger than all circumstances. These efforts aim to alleviate the suffering of the population in the Gaza Strip by mobilizing all available resources to ensure patients’ access to quality healthcare services that contribute to improving their quality of life.”

Operations have commenced with the activation of the CT scanner, the only one available in the northern governorates of the Gaza Strip, highlighting its critical importance to the local health sector. This will be followed the activation of the hospital’s three main departments: the Prosthetics Department, the Audiology and Balance Department, and the Physical Rehabilitation Department, in addition to specialized outpatient clinics and inpatient rehabilitation services dedicated to war-injured patients and those suffering from neurological and muscular conditions, strokes, and fractures.

The resumption of services at the hospital coincides with the opening of a new branch in southern Gaza, in response to the growing needs of the population amid the severe deterioration of the healthcare system, which requires sustained support to recover under the ongoing blockade and current challenges.

Since its inauguration in April 2019 until October 2025, the hospital has provided services to approximately 52,000 beneficiaries with various disabilities. Around 100 patients have benefited from prosthetic limb services since March 2025, in addition to nearly 9,000 patients who received rehabilitation and audiology services.

The continued operation of the hospital and the expansion of its services reflect the State of Qatar’s steadfast commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, particularly in light of the exceptional and difficult conditions facing the Gaza Strip, reinforcing the resilience of the healthcare sector and ensuring the continuity of essential services.

Doha, Qatar

With the support of Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and the implementation of Qatar Red Crescent (QRCs), a new humanitarian project has been launched to improve and expand the quality of healthcare services at the field hospital for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, in cooperation with the Bangladesh Red Crescent. This project comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance health conditions in the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, which host more than one million refugees living in harsh humanitarian and living conditions.

Implemented in collaboration with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), the project is part of the ongoing efforts to improve health conditions at the Rohingya refugee camps of Cox’s Bazar, which host more than one million refugees amid harsh living and humanitarian conditions.

The core of the project is to operate the BDRCS field hospital for 2 years, ensuring the continuity of basic and specialized health care services for refugees and host communities. The project targets more than 150,000 beneficiaries, providing emergency medical care, reproductive health, maternal and child health care, dental care, and psychosocial support, while enhancing the field hospital’s infrastructure and capacity.

Also, the project will establish an epidemic emergency preparedness and response hub, to boost disease monitoring and rapid response to potential outbreaks, given the overpopulation at camps and ongoing epidemic-related challenges.

The project represents an effective model of humanitarian partnership between national and international organizations, combining the field expertise of BDRCS with the technical and financial support provided by QFFD and QRCS, which helps strengthen the local health system and make it more crisis-proof.

As an active response to urgent health needs, this intervention is inspired by Qatar’s commitment to the principle of humanitarian solidarity, as well as its constant efforts to improve the lives of the most vulnerable people, particularly in zones of protracted conflicts and humanitarian disasters.

Gaza, Palestine

The State of Qatar has established a first aid station at HH The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza, funded by Qatar Fund for Development, to treat emergency cases in northern Gaza and injured individuals waiting for aid.

The medical point, which receives hundreds of patients, provides rapid response to treat injuries through a specialized medical and nursing team dedicated to serving the wounded, offering available treatment, and referring some cases to hospitals run by the Ministry of Health in Gaza and other facilities, using ambulances operated by the Ministry of Health, the Palestinian Red Crescent, and medical services.

Over the past few weeks, the hospital has treated around 2538injured individuals, and received Nearly 220 martyrs, including 1227 injuries and 119 martyrs in the last week alone.

Mr. Fahad Hamad Al-Sulaiti, Director General of Qatar Fund for Development and Chairman of the Hospital’s Board of Directors, stated:
“In line with the Fund’s commitment to humanitarian work and our sense of responsibility towards our brothers and sisters in Gaza, we continue to support HH The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza, to ensure the delivery of care to those in need under the most difficult circumstances.”

He also renewed his call for the international community to take a firm stance that allows for the immediate and safe entry of aid and ensures the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers.

He added:
“The severe escalation in Gaza and the direct targeting of civilians impose an undeniable moral and humanitarian responsibility on the international community. Systematic starvation, lack of medical resources, and ongoing aggression are crimes that only deepen the suffering of innocent people, and they must stop immediately. Humanitarian aid is not a tool of pressure and must never be used as a weapon against the vulnerable

Mr. Ahmad Naeem, Director General of Hamad Hospital, stated:

“The establishment of the first aid and emergency point comes as part of the hospital’s humanitarian duty amid the collapse and weakness of the health system in the Gaza Strip, due to the systematic targeting of hospitals. This is in addition to the deteriorating field conditions in the northern area near the hospital, which witnesses a daily influx of large numbers of injured individuals waiting for aid.”

He continued:

“The responsibility is immense and requires the joint efforts of all international and local medical institutions to help alleviate the suffering of these wounded individuals by supplying the medical point with the necessary equipment and supplies, especially in light of the severe shortage of medical resources caused by the blockade imposed on the Strip and the occupation’s prevention of life-saving materials used to treat the injured from entering.”

In addition to this emergency response point, the hospital continues to offer its core services to hundreds of injured and persons with disabilities through its three main departments:
Prosthetics – Medical Rehabilitation – Audiology and Balance,
as well as the CT scan unit, the only one currently operational in northern Gaza.

HH The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza, funded by Qatar Fund for Development, resumes the provision of its services for patients and the wounded, overcoming the destruction of its infrastructure, equipment, and departments due to the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
Mr. Fahad Al-Sulaiti, Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development, said: “Since the establishment of HH The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza, we have been able to provide services to many beneficiaries. Despite the challenges, and thanks to great efforts, the hospital has resumed operations, marking a crucial step considering the difficult conditions our people in Gaza are facing. With the severe deterioration of the healthcare sector and the urgent need for such services, the hospital remains a beacon of hope. Its continued operation reflects Qatar’s steadfast commitment to supporting our Palestinian brothers and providing them with the necessary healthcare despite the challenges.”
Dr. Khaled Abdel Hadi, Managing Director and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hamad Hospital, stated: “As part of the emergency response to the needs of patients and war casualties in Gaza, and given the collapse of the healthcare system, despite the operational capacity of the hospital being reduced to 70% and losses amounting to $4.5 million, the Board of Directors decided to resume services immediately after the ceasefire. This comes after the hospital was forced out of service during the period of aggression on Gaza.”
Dr. Khaled Abdel Hadi reaffirmed that Qatar, under the leadership of its Emir, government, and people, remains committed to supporting the Palestinian people, helping them overcome the current crisis, and advancing their society toward a better future.
The response strategy consisting of three phases to ensure the continuation of services for those in need. The first phase, lasting one week after clearing the rubble and preparing the hospital premises, will focus on measuring and manufacturing prosthetics using the available materials in storage. It is estimated that around 4,500 new amputees need prosthetics in addition to the 2,000 existing cases requiring maintenance and follow-up care. Additionally, vital audiology services will be reactivated for children with cochlear implants, including auditory-verbal rehabilitation, programming, and spare parts provision.
In the second phase, expected to last two weeks, outpatient clinics will reopen to provide specialized rehabilitation services, including stroke rehabilitation, brain and spinal cord injury rehabilitation, amputation rehabilitation, pediatric rehabilitation, musculoskeletal and orthopedic rehabilitation, pain management, bladder rehabilitation, and men’s health services. Outpatient rehabilitation services, such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and swallowing therapy, will also resume. Currently, approximately 24,000 injured individuals require rehabilitation. Laboratory services, CT scans, and X-ray services will also be reintroduced. The third phase will see the return of inpatient rehabilitation services for patients recovering from various injuries.
Meanwhile, the hospital’s General Director, Mr. Ahmed Naim, noted that the hospital’s rehabilitation and restoration efforts were carried out with minimal resources and within available means. He emphasized ongoing coordination efforts with partners and international organizations to procure essential medical equipment and devices to fully restore the hospital’s capacity and maintain high-quality healthcare services for patients. Mr. Naim also called on international and local organizations to collaborate in expanding and improving services to ensure optimal care for beneficiaries.
It is worth mentioning that HH The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza, funded by Qatar Fund for Development, has provided services to more than 40,000 patients and individuals with disabilities since its inauguration in April 2019 until the onset of the aggression. The hospital is considered one of the largest and most vital rehabilitation facilities in Gaza, offering its services free of charge through its three main departments including Prosthetics, Audiology and Balance, and Medical Rehabilitation.
This important step reflects the State of Qatar’s steadfast commitment, through the Qatar Fund for Development, to support the brotherly Palestinian people in these difficult humanitarian circumstances and contributing to alleviating their suffering.

Doha, Qatar – December 9, 2024
Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has signed a grant agreement with Qatar Charity (QC) to finance the mobile medical clinics project in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. This project aims to provide critical healthcare services to over 530,000 people, particularly families devastated by the floods that impacted approximately 33 million individuals and destroyed vital infrastructure, including 1,460 healthcare facilities across the country.
As part of this agreement, 12 fully equipped mobile medical clinics will be operated, each staffed with specialized medical teams comprising doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, and health education experts. The clinics will operate in flood-affected areas, including Punjab province, offering comprehensive health services to vulnerable populations over the course of 12 months.
In addition, the project will provide vital medicines and medical equipment, as well as cover the salaries of healthcare workers within the mobile clinics. These clinics will focus on delivering quick, efficient, and essential basic medical care as well as offering health education to help local communities prevent disease outbreaks.
The agreement aims to reduce the spread of waterborne diseases and other epidemics through rapid medical interventions, while ensuring access to primary care services. By transitioning individuals from emergency relief to long-term health stability, the initiative plays a crucial role in the overall recovery process and lays the groundwork for future rehabilitation efforts.

23/10/2014
Cairo, Egypt
Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity, in partnership with Yemen for Cancer Care & Charity Foundation, have launched a project in Cairo to Support humanitarian cases of Yemeni cancer patients seeking treatment in Egypt. The ceremony was attended by high-level figures from the Qatari and Yemeni sides.
The project will cover the treatment of Yemeni cancer patients arriving from Yemen as well as those residing in Egypt by covering travel, accommodation, and necessary medical interventions in Egypt.
This initiative addresses the challenges faced by the healthcare facilities in Yemen and the deteriorating living conditions due to the difficult circumstances the country has experienced for the past nine years. The project is expected to benefit a total of 166 cases, including 120 patients who will be brought from Yemen and 46 cancer cases from those already in Cairo.
In his speech, Al Hajj Abdul-Wasi Hayel, Chairman of the Board of Founders of Yemen for Cancer Care & Charity Foundation in Cairo, emphasized their appreciation for Qatar Fund for Development’s contributions to development projects in Yemen. He acknowledged the Fund’s relentless efforts to support the Yemeni people through various programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing economic growth, building youth capacities, and contributing to food security, water and sanitation projects, and emergency cholera response, among others.
He welcomed the partnership with Qatar Charity in implementing this project and expressed gratitude for the presence of representatives from both organizations at the launch, stating: “We are pleased to have representatives from the Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity joining us in launching this project, which aligns with the qualitative leap in the Foundation’s work and services dedicated to serving Yemeni cancer patients who have been tested by fate. The difficult circumstances and economic conditions in Yemen have prevented this segment of patients from receiving the necessary healthcare services, especially given the weak performance of the health system, which is nearly paralyzed across the provinces.”
During her speech, Ms. Maryam Khalid Al-Maslamani, Acting Manager of Director General Office, Qatar Fund for Development said: ” In consideration of the big challenges faced by Yemeni patients in accessing essential healthcare, there is an urgent need for this intervention. From this standpoint, we seek through this project to extend a helping hand to everyone in need of treatment and care.”
She confirmed that this project underscores Qatar’s pioneering role in supporting humanitarian efforts at both regional and international levels. She also expressed her complete confidence in this collaboration, which will have a significant positive impact on the lives of these patients and will contribute to enhancing the values of humanity and solidarity between the Qatari and Yemeni peoples.
For her part, Ms. Hajar Al-Hajri, Head of International Partnerships and Finance in Qatar Charity stated: “Standing by cancer patients is a humanitarian and ethical duty, as they require special care and continuous support in their journey toward recovery.” She noted that this project is not new for Qatar Charity, either in Yemen or elsewhere, mentioning that Qatar Charity previously supported the treatment of over 250 Yemeni cancer patients in Egypt in collaboration with the Yemen Foundation for Cancer Care.
Ms. Al-Hajri expressed her gratitude to Qatar Fund for Development for its generous support and to the Yemen Foundation for its ongoing efforts in providing care and support to patients. She emphasized that their partnership in this project demonstrates the importance of collective action in addressing humanitarian challenges and the need for joint cooperation to alleviate the suffering of cancer patients, hoping that this project will mark a new beginning of hope and courage in facing this disease and recovering from it.

Beirut, Republic of Lebanon

Qatar Fund for Development has announced its continued support for Lebanon’s reconstruction efforts by laying the foundation stone for the rebuilding of Karantina Hospital in Beirut, in collaboration with the Lebanese Ministry of Health. This project is part of the necessary rehabilitation following the catastrophic explosion that struck the Beirut port on August 4, 2020.

The foundation stone ceremony was attended by a delegation from Qatar Fund for Development led by Acting Director General, Mr. Sultan Ahmed Al-Asiri. Also present were several prominent figures, including His Excellency Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Lebanon, His Excellency Dr. Firas Abiad, Minister of Public Health in Lebanon, and Dr. Michel Matar, Chairman of the Board of Karantina Hospital. This project represents a significant step toward rebuilding and equipping Building “B” of the old hospital and is part of Qatar’s commitment to supporting Lebanon, as pledged by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, during the donors’ conference held in Paris on August 9, 2020.

Since the Beirut port explosion, Qatar has played a pivotal role in providing humanitarian aid to Lebanon, including medical and food assistance, as well as establishing field hospitals to address medical crises. This project reflects Qatar’s comprehensive approach to supporting Lebanon’s healthcare infrastructure and enhancing its capacity to handle emergencies.

This partnership between the Qatar Fund for Development and the Lebanese Ministry of Health signifies the continued steadfast support from Qatar for Lebanon and reaffirms Qatar’s commitment to helping Lebanon achieve stability and sustainable development for its people.
