8 April 2025
Doha, Qatar
Qatar Fund for Development, in partnership with Education Above All (EAA) Foundation and Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), has successfully concluded its annual ‘Eid Gift’ campaign, an initiative by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Education Above All Foundation, aimed at collecting new clothing and school bags to support children and families in Gaza and Syria. The campaign saw wide community engagement, reflecting the deeply rooted values of giving and solidarity within Qatari society.

Held from 5 to 20 March 2025, the campaign successfully collected over 60,000 new clothes from 18 locations, including leisure centers such as malls, mosques, and private sector stores, across Qatar, making it one of the most successful campaigns of its kind. A major collection site was Place Vendôme, where a single store collected 1,750 clothing items valued at QAR 73,000.

Mohamed Al-Kuwari, Acting CEO of Education Above All Foundation, said: “The ‘Eid Gift’ campaign reflects our strong commitment to supporting vulnerable communities, not only through education but also by responding to their essential humanitarian needs—especially during occasions that embody solidarity and dignity. We are proud of this partnership with Qatar Red Crescent Society and Qatar Fund for Development, and of the Qatari community’s overwhelming engagement, which played a pivotal role in the campaign’s success. We will continue working with our partners to create lasting, positive impact in the lives of children and families in Gaza and Syria.”

Faisal Al Emadi, Secretary-General of QRCS, expressed his happiness with the fruitful cooperation with EAA Foundation on the ‘Eid Gift’ campaign, conducted for the second year consecutively. This year, there are more collection points designated to receive in-kind donations from the generous people of Qatar, and the scope of target beneficiaries has expanded to include Gaza and Syria. “Throughout the campaign, QRCS volunteers have been unsung heroes, carrying out all the necessary organizing and logistic tasks,” said Mr. Al Emadi. “Aid trucks have already been deployed towards Jordan, where part of the aid shipment will be transported into Syria. The rest of the shipment will be prepared and put on hold, until it becomes possible to enter them into Gaza through the border crossing. We hope this will happen very soon, so that the children and people of Gaza can benefit from these new clothing items and feel the joy of Eid Al-Fitr”.

Ms. Nouf Al-Kaabi, Deputy Director General of Development Projects Sector at Qatar Fund for Development expressed, “We are proud to support the ‘Eid Gift’ campaign, a meaningful initiative that embodies Qatar’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian assistance and international solidarity. Through our collaboration with the Education Above All Foundation and the Qatar Red Crescent Society, we are able to support and bring hope to children and families in Gaza and Syria, ensuring they experience the joy of the Eid season. This campaign reflects the strength of our community and our shared responsibility to uplift those in need in pursuit of a peaceful and prosperous future.”

The “Eid Gift” campaign directly aligns with The State of Qatar’s ongoing efforts to support the brother people of Gaza and Syria. This commitment, rooted in the nation’s dedication to humanitarian principles, translates into tangible assistance aimed at alleviating suffering and fostering resilience in these vulnerable communities. By providing essential resources like new clothing and school bags, the campaign directly addresses the immediate needs of families affected by conflict and hardship, contributing to Qatar’s broader efforts to ensure access to education, promote well-being, and build a foundation for a more stable and prosperous future in both Gaza and Syria.

Qatar Fund for development (QFFD) signed an agreement with it strategic partner the Food and Agriculture Organization (FOA), to help Somalia in building climate-resilience and take shock-informed anticipatory action.

Somalia is highly vulnerable to recurrent shocks, with colliding and cumulative effects. The country has been recurrently affected by droughts, flash and riverine flooding, cyclones, locusts, disease outbreaks, conflict, and subsequent large-scale. These shocks have led to continual disruption of livelihoods, increased vulnerability, and poverty, resulting in acute hunger and malnutrition.

“We gather all here today to witness the signing of urgent anticipatory action agreement. We trust that the initiative will support farming and pastoral communities at risk in advance to reduce threats withing the marginalized groups. More to that, the call of anticipatory action will help deliver effective solutions that is estimated to assist 1,850 farming smallholders and respond to emergency agricultural livelihoods in advance.” Said Mr. Misfer Al-Shahwani, Deputy Director General of projects, Qatar Fund for Development

“FAO welcomes the commitment of the State of Qatar to support vulnerable farming communities in Somalia. Through this first ever partnership with the Qatar Fund for Development, we will work together to save and reinforce livelihoods and help families to anticipate shocks such as drought and prevent and control animal diseases by increasing and diversifying their food production and protecting their livestock – an essential source of food and income.” Said Ms Beth Bechdol ,FAO’s Deputy Director-General,

And to ease this dilemma QFFD with FOA is aiming thought this project to achieve the goal enhancing smallholder agriculture and livestock production through climate-resilient and shock-informed anticipatory action. This will serve as the objective of this project. It will include, maximizing and diversifying farmers’ production in anticipation of a drought, drought-related spread of animal disease is mitigated to protect household food security, nutrition, and income and lastly improving access to water to protect critical livelihood assets of pastoralist populations.

Additionally this project is a part of the state of Qatar’s pledge of 100 Million USD to support Countries dealing with climate change, natural hazards and environmental challenges, and build back their resilience to the devastating impacts.

Qatar Fund for Development supports core resources of the United Nations Development Program with an amount of $ 16 million over two years (2021-2022)

Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) signed with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) a support agreement worth 16 million US dollars supporting the core resources of the UNDP.

Where this support will contribute to the development of several areas through innovative solutions, the UNDP will focus on 177 country, including developing countries, and link them with knowledge, experience and resources to reach the people in need to build a better life, and this is in line with the vision of QFFD in giving hope and promoting peace, in addition to To find solutions to eliminate the obstacles to sustainable development that QFFD is working to achieve. Its programs also focus on poverty reduction, which is the first goal of the sustainable development goals, in addition to recovery, crisis prevention, conflict reduction, and early recovery from disasters in the fastest possible way. The program works to find sustainable solutions to the global warming problem.

The agreement to support basic resources for a period of two years (2021-2022) was signed by His Excellency Mr. Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, Director General of Qatar Fund for Development, and Mr. Achim Steiner, Director of the United Nations Development Program. During the signing, the two parties agreed to cooperate in pursuit of the sustainable development goals at the national level. Global.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all UN Member States in 2015, is a common roadmap to achieve peace and prosperity for people and the planet at the same time. The SDGs is an urgent call for all countries to work in the global partnership to end poverty, improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth while simultaneously tackling climate change and preserving our oceans and forests.

It is worth noting that the State of Qatar is one of the first countries to support the establishment of a group of laboratories to accelerate the development impact in over 78 countries. These pioneering labs were launched in January 2019, in over sixty developing countries to become an integral part of UNDP teams and infrastructure in each country.

Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) signed an agreement with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency to provide much-needed seasonal cash assistance for tens of thousands of refugee men, women and children. The cash assistance, which will be distributed until the end of December 2019, is expected to support over 20,900 Syrian refugees in Jordan and around 24,900 in Lebanon.

“We are thankful to the Qatar Fund For Development, the generous people of Qatar, and the government and leaderhip of Qatar for this much-needed contribution. Winter is a critical time for hundreds of thousands of vulnerable refugee families across the Middle East and North Africa region. The ability to provide winter assistance and more importantly, cash asisstance is integral to safeguarding their wellbeing during this diffcult season” said Amin Awad, UNHCR Director for the Middle East and North Africa Bureau and Regional Refugee Coordinator for the Syria and Iraq situations

UNHCR’s Winterization Appeal was launched in September this year timely and substantial support for some 88 million refugees and internally displaced persons in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt in winter. However, funding gaps remain as the winter chill spreads across the region, forcing many to endure their ninth consecutive winter in displacement.

The provision of cash assistance allows displaced families to prioritise their needs and spending, with many utilising seasonal cash assistance for heating, rent, warm clothing and other winter essentials.

QFFD’s contributions to UNHCR’s programmes have supported over 600,000 refugees and internally displaced persons in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Bangladesh and Yemen.

Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), in cooperation with Qatar Charity, responded urgently to the earthquake that struck several cities including Durres, Fura and Kavaya in Albania. Relief items such as beds, blankets, hot meals and food baskets, as well as winter blankets and winter clothes, were distributed to the earthquake victims.

Qatar’s Ambassador to Albania, HE Mr. Hamad bin Ali Al Marri, met with Mrs. Valbona Sako, Mayor of Durres Governorate, who thanked the State of Qatar and Qatar Charity for the support provided to the Republic of Albania.

The 6.4-magnitude earthquake killed more than 30 people and injured hundreds. This, in addition to material losses, destruction of buildings and roads, damage to infrastructure and electricity cuts, which will make it difficult to conduct relief operations, particularly in hospitals.

These are in addition to the affected victims who are in desperate need of aid, and the number of missing persons.

This urgent relief comes as support from the Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity as part of the vital role played by the State of Qatar to help those affected by disasters around the world.

The foremost primary goal of this relief is to help the victims of the earthquake to overcome this humanitarian crisis with the least possible losses and to mitigate the impact of the disaster which led to the death of families, and the displacement of thousands due to the continued aftershocks of the earthquake
